Opposition to the plan of starting Jewish colonization work in Siberia was voiced at a stormy meeting of the Ozet, the society for settling Jews on the land, held in Moscow, according to a report of the Yiddish Communist paper, “Emes.”

Representatives of the Left Poale Zion party, Ensen and Finkelstein, sharply criticized the project of Jewish colonization in Siberia. The Jews abroad will not support this plan, they contended. The only place for extensive Jewish colonization is Palestine, they declared, being applauded by many of the audience who sang the Zionist hymn “Hatikvah.”

Following this incident the meeting passed a resolution protesting against “the Zionist move.” The “Emes” in commenting upon the occurrence asked the authorities how long they will endure such elements.
