An order to demolish houses in which historically important stones taken from the ancient Jewish cemetery here were used in the building, was issued by the city authorities here.
Some time ago the ancient Jewish cemetery here was plundered at night and twenty-five tombstones, considered rare antiquities and works of art, were carried away. It was later discovered that the missing stones were employed in the construction of houses.
