Keren Hayesod committees were formed throughout Java, during the our of Dr. Alexander Goldstein, special representative of the Keren Hayesod.
Dr. Goldstein visited Batavia. Bandoeng, Djokjakarta, Semarang, Malang and Soerabaja. Gatherings of Jewish residents, at which subscriptions for the Keren Hayesod were made were followed by public meetings. These public meetings were arranged under the auspices of the “Kunstkring,” the most influential European association in the Dutch Indies, and attracted hundreds of Jews and non-Jews.
The Keren Hayesod work is headed by S. I. van Creveld, the Keren Hayesod representative for the Dutch Indies
The Nederlandsch-Indische Zionistenbond was revived and a Zionistenbond committee was elected at Soerabaja.
Dr. Goldstein was received in a special audience by the Governor General. who expressed his sympathy with the desire to build up a Jewish national home in Palestine.
The Dutch press devoted much space to Dr. Goldstein’s visit.
Gustavus A Rogers was the toastmaster at the “fifty-dollar” dinner Wednesday night of “The Jewish Forum.” monthly publication of New York, edited by Isaac Rosengarten. Among those present who delivered addresses were: Dr. Moses Hyamson. Dr. Leo Jung. Rev Bernard Drachman, Mr. Samuel C. Feuerstein of Boston. Louis Lutzhy of Bal. timore Dr. Henry Keller, president of the Jewish Academy of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Maurice Eisenberg. Rev. B. Leon liurwitz of the Bay Ridge Jewish Center.
