Responding to an appeal from the president of the University of Michigan on behalf of the B’nai B’rith Hillel Foundation at Ann Arbor prominent Jewish alumni are making plans to form a national committee to support the work carried on by the foundation.
Under the leadership of Captain Charles A. Riegelman, the committee will endeavor to secure funds for current maintenance as well as for endowment purposes.
“While the Hillel Foundation was founded primarily to serve the cultural and social needs of the Jewish student body,” Captain Riegelman pointed out, “this work is rendering a great and vital service in spreading true information throughout the entire university population with respect to Jewulsh culture, traditions and religion. It should be an effective method in helping to combat the growth of anti-Semitism.”
The alumni committee for the B’nai B’rith Hillel Foundation at Michigan University is the first organization of this type in the field, according to Judge Myron Sulzberger, chairman of the B’nai B’rith National Service Appeal in the New York district. It is hoped similar committees will be formed among Jewish alumni of other universities which have Hillel Foundations.
