The Hebrew Orphan Asylum of New York is bequeathed $5,000 under the will of Abraham L. Newman, vice-president of the board of trustees of the asylum, filed for probate in Surrogates Court Friday.
Mr. Newman, who died here Dec. 18, left an estate of “more than $10,000”, according to the formal estimate on the petition for probate.
The testament, dated April 3, 1933, directs that $20,000 of the bequest be used for the establishment of an educational fund to be known as the A. L. Newman Educational Fund. The fund is to be used to defray the expenses of higher education for such deserving wards of the Asylum as the board of trustees may select. The remaining $5,000 is to be used to establish the A. L. Newman Library Fund.
The widow, Rose H. Newman, received two-thirds of the residue. A grandson, Mortimer H. Heff, Jr., received $5,000 and his father, Mortimer H., Sr., and Mrs. M. N. Heff, a daughter, received one-sixth of the residue.
