The Warsaw branch of the World ORT Federation, organization for retraining of Jews, is supplying clothing and underwear for the Jewish population of the former Polish capital, according to authentic information received here today. The organization has not ceased operating since the outbreak of the war, it was stated.
Leaders of the Polish ORT, Dr. Marjan Maisner and Joseph Jaszunski, remained on the spot and were reported to be doing everything necessary toward providing constructive relief for the stricken Jewish population.
The ORT trade school at 9 Zabia Street was said to have been converted into a number of large workshops where the students and a considerable number of artisans are producing underwear and clothing for the needy. To increase the output, machinery and appliances of two other Warsaw ORT schools have been transferred to the Zabia institution.
A second workshop has been organized in the building formerly housing the Warsaw Engineering School and production of iron bedsteads has been stareted by the ORT for hostels which are being established to house the victims of fires.
In the last month, it was reported, the Polish ORT has begun to supply machinery and tools to artisans whose workshops were damaged or destroyed during the bombardment. The central committee of the ORT is also trying to secure permission for normal functioning of all ORT trade schools.
