The establishment of an ORT committee in Israel was announced here today by Dr. Aaron Syngalowski, executive chairmen of the World Ort Union, who is now on a mission in Israel. The committee represents all sections of the community and was assured of government support.
Dr. Syngalowki reported that 20 trade schools would be established in Israel by the end of 1948 for new immigrants and workers. The Tel Aviv municipality will provide buildings for schools for training watchmakers, dental technicians makers of precision instruments, automobile mechanics, electrical, radio and telephone engineers, tailors, spinners and weavers. Special workshops will be set up for war invalids. A carpet industry for Jerusalem, with Iranian instructors, is planned. Dr. Syngaloweki said that equipment is being transferred from ORT schools in Europe. The program was outlined at a meeting arranged by the Tel Aviv municipality, at which 300 prominent persons were present.
