Expansion of Ort activities in Switzerland through the establishment of a new professional school for refugee girls near Basle, and large vegetable gardens near Geneva and the refugee camp in Sierre, was announced here today.
The Swiss Red Cross will finance a boarding house which will be opened at the professional school which starts functioning next week. The practical and theoretical work in the truck gardens will be conducted under the direction of the Ort agronomists Louis Weizmann and Lazar Levin.
Dr. Boris Tchlenoff, head of the World Ose Union, which sends medical aid to Jews in occupied countries, was the recipient today of many greetings on the occasion of his 80th birthday. Despite his age, Dr. Tchlenoff is still active. He was formerly professor of medicine at Bern University.
