More than 43,000 destitute Jews in 23 countries were helped last year to regain their economic independence through ORT’s program of vocational training, according to the annual report delivered last night by Dr. David L. Lvovitch, co-chairman of the World ORT Union, to the board of directors of the American CRT Federation.

Dr. Lvovitch announced the opening soon of 26 new ORT courses in Israel. “At the same time, World ORT Union will continue in 1949 its vital reconstruction project of training Jews all over the world,” he said. “ORT vocational training work will go on in the DP camps in Germany, Austria and Italy so long as Jews remain there who need help,” he reported. In other European countries, such as Rumania, where Social and economic changes necessitate vocational readjustment of the Jewish population, ORT will organize special accelerated courses for adults, he said.
