A new ORT vocational school has been opened in Tetuan, Morocco, bringing to seven the number of ORT installations in the chief centers of Jewish population in North Africa, the American ORT Federation announced today.

Tetuan, the capital of the former Spanish Zone of Morocco, has some 6, 000 Jews, most of them extremely poor. There is little that can properly be described as industry, except for a match factory that employs numbers of Jewish girls and a few other small enterprises. Jews are predominantly artisans and petty merchants. The women work as domestics. Very many are without trades of any kind and suffer chronic unemployment.

The school opened with an enrollment of 38 teen-age boys, who were selected from a considerably larger number of applicants. They are enrolled in three-year courses in metal and wood-working, with a heavy study and shop schedule of some 40 hours a week. At the end of the three years, the student body is expected to number 100, adequate for the regular, vocational education needs of the community.
