More than 27, 000 persons received instruction in useful occupations last year at ORT schools in 19 countries, according to a report issued here today. The report states that in 1957, the international ORT network comprised 473 trade schools, training workshops and farms and apprentice plans. Enrollment was 21 percent higher than during the previous year. The report anticipates the number of trainees in 1958 at considerably over 30, 000.
The 6, 000 graduates of the class of ’57 were practically all placed on jobs without difficulty, the report stresses. Estimated earnings of these graduates is placed at over $5, 000, 000, “a sum in excess of the entire cost of ORT work last year,” the report notes.
