A call for prayers and fasting next Monday in protest against the national conscription law was issued here today by a committee opposed to the recruitment of religious women. Special sermons marking Orthodox opposition against the law will be delivered next Saturday in all synagogues throughout Israel.
An official communique issued here today revealed that the question of conscription of Orthodox women for national service was not discussed during yesterday’s meeting between Israel Premier David Ben Gurion and Rabbi Abraham Karelitz, famous religious sage, known as Hason Ish (Vision of Man).
The communique added that during the hour-long meeting at the sage’s home in Bnei Brak the Premier and the 90-year-old religious leader exchanged opinions on how Orthodox and non-Orthodox elements in Israel could cooperate in building the Jewish State. While the two men conferred yesterday, thousands of Chassidim gathered outside the sage’s home.
