Rabbi Zev Segal, president of the Rabbinical Council of America, an Orthodox body, called today upon Orthodox Jewry to launch a “crash” program on college campuses to retain the loyalties and participation in Jewish life of the young people. He proposed a mass effort directed towards the campus, which would include strengthening of Jewish agencies currently working on the campus; establishment by congregations near campuses of centers for the students; efforts by congregations to give young people a greater voice and role in the conduct of congregational affairs; frequent student “dialogues” with Jewish religious leaders and a program of publications to present Jewish ideals in the “language of today’s intellectual community.”
