Israeli police this week arrested some 140 fervently Orthodox Jews who wer protesting at an excavation site in Jaffa.
The demonstrators claimed that an ancient Jewish cemetery is located at the side and that the graves were being desecrated by ongoing construction work.
The protesters tried to disrupt the work at the site, which is slated to become an underground parking lot.
About half of those detained for questioning were later released.
