The Rabbinical Council of America has disassociated itself from the campaign of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of America protesting the Israel national service bill for women, President Isaac Ben Zvi was told here today by Rabbi Eliezer Katz of Passaic, N.J., a leader of the Council, an Orthodox group.
Dr. Katz told the Israeli President that his organization also disapproves of the Union’s interference in Israel’s religious affairs, which the Council regards as an encroachment on the responsibilities of the Israel Chief Rabbinate. Rabbi Katz emphasized his opinion that the Union has no authority to make religious pronouncements.
