A pledge not to tolerate racial persecution during his regime was made today before a group of Jewish newspapermen by President-elect Roberto M. Ortiz, who assumes the presidency of the Argentine Republic next Sunday.
The nation cannot tolerate a policy of race hatred, “which is repulsive to the national character,” Dr. Ortiz said. He declared:
“During my presidency, I shall not tolerate any race persecutions. The Argentine will be, as heretofore, a great country for all who know how to love her and contribute to realization of Argentine ideals and aspirations. The Argentine cannot tolerate a policy of race hate, which is repulsive to the national character. Argentine Jews, when they put to the service of the nation their energies, capabilities and intelligence in building up their home here, may be sure in my administration of peace and respect. The Constitution was created for justice and to grant freedom to us and posterity as well as to all men of the world who want to live on Argentine soil.”
