The Justice Department’s Office of Special Investigations has begun deportation hearings against Johann Dorth, an SS guard at the Auschwitz death camp now living in the Cincinnati area.
Dorth, 64, who lives in Fairfield, Ohio, served in the Waffen-SS Death’s Head units between 1942 and 1944, according to Holocaust Survivors and Friends in Pursuit of Justice, an independent Albany-based group.
It is alleged that Dorth assisted in the persecution of prisoners, including their forcible confinement and subjection to slave labor, physical abuse, and extermination.
OSI charged that Dorth willfully concealed his SS service from American immigration authorities in 1951, when he entered the country under the Displaced Persons Act of 1948.
