Outgoing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened an emergency meeting of his Security Cabinet on Tuesday for a briefing from army officials about stepped-up Hezbollah operations in southern Lebanon. The operations, which came as the Israel-allied South Lebanon Army began a withdrawal from a Christian enclave in the region, elicited warnings from Israeli officials that they would not allow Hezbollah attacks on the SLA during its withdrawal.
