Over 100 Jews have been arrested in Iraq following a hate campaign which has been systematically conducted by authorities there, it was reported here today. The detained Jews are accused of sabotage, high treason, fifth column activities and converting synagogues into arms depots. Between 15,000 and 20,000 Jews still remain in Bagdad, it is reported.
A similar, though smaller scaled, campaign against the Jews is being conducted in Lebanon. During a recent Parliamentary debate, a deputy asked that Jewish property in Lebanon be confiscated to help the Palestine Arab refugees. Although the Lebanese Jews have been accused of sabotaging the proposed economic union between Syria and Lebanon, the Beirut press has strongly condemned this anti-Jewish drive.
