The Judea Insurance Company, Ltd., the Palestinian Jewish Insurance Company, for the first ten months of its activity in Palestine has written more than $1,000,000 life insurance, according to an announcement made by Mr. Nathan Chasan and Mr. Jacob Miller, Resident Director and General Manager respectively of the Judea Insurance Company, Ltd.
Sixteen first mortgages on homes in various parts of Palestine, aggregating an amount of $50,500 have been granted by the Judea Insurance Company out of its capital and premiums. Of its reserve $17,000 has been invested in the bonds of the municipality of Tel-Aviv.
The Cooperative Loan and Savings Bank of Palestine, of which Mordecai ben Hillel HaCohen is President, and which operates on the same principle as the Building and Loan Associations of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, has concluded a contract with the Judea Insurance Company, Ltd., whereby the Bank accepts installment payments of premiums on policies from all of its shareholding members who have obligated themselves en masse to take out life insurance policies of not less than $1500 each. This represents the largest single life insurance contract consummated in the Near East. A clause in the contract provides that the Judea Insurance Company, Ltd., undertakes to furnish first mortgages on improved real estate in Palestine, owned by the Cooperative Loan and Savings Bank, and its members.
WOMEN’S WEAR DIVISION PLEDGES $25,000 TO N. Y. UNITED JEWISH CAMPAIGN
The sum of $25,000 was pledged at a special meeting of the Women’s Wear Division of the United Jewish Campaign. Approximately 200 members affiliated with the various subcommittees of the Women’s Wear Division were present. Moses Mosessohn presided. The meeting was addressed by David A. Brown, national chairman of the United Jewish Campaign.
Announcement was made by David M. Bressler. vice-chairman of the United Jewish Campaign of New York, of the organization of the East Side under the leadership of Judge Max S. Levine, president of the Grand Street Boys. Headquarters have been opened at 133 Second Avenue.
One of the largest special committees formed for the Trade Division of the United Jewish Campaign of New York, was organized at a meeting at the drive headquarters.
Fourteen New York theatrical producers and two stars accepted office as co-chairmen of the Theatrical Committee.
The co-chairmen of the committee named are A. L. Erlanger, Lee Schubert Carl Laemmle, Charles O’Reilly, Sam H. Harris, E. F. Albee, William A. Brady, Marcus Loew, Harry Warner, Al Jolson, Eddie Cantor, William Morris, B. S. Moss, Morris Goodman, Sid. S. Cohen and Jos. Leblang.
