More than 17,000 Jewish refugees, mostly from Austria and Poland, left Italy for Israel in the second half of 1949, it was announced today. About 1,050 refugees–from Poland, Egypt, Germany, China, Tripoli, Hungary, Austria and Czechoslovakia–left for Israel in the last two weeks of December.
