The owners of 43 ships that had previously dealt with Israel have decided to cancel such trade and have been, for that reason, removed from the Arab blacklist, according to an announcement received here today from the Arab Central Boycott Office at Damascus.
The 43 freighters, according to Mohammed Nahgoub, commissioner general of the Boycott Office, include one flying the American flag. The others fly the flag of Britain, Greece, Burma, Liberia, Sweden, Norway, Panama, Italy, Finland, West Germany, Holland and Yugoslavia. These freighters, said Nahgoub, formed one-third of the total of ships blacklisted, and the ban against them has been lifted “after their owners complied with boycott regulations and ended all dealings with Israel.”
The ban, he said, has also been lifted on the “Five Star” shipping line of Burma “because Israeli shares in that company have been nationalized.” If Nahgoub’s figures, as reported from Damascus, are accurate, there were a total of 123 foreign ships on the Arab blacklist, and 86 are still being blacklisted for trading with Israel.
