Pakistan will move toward normalization of relations with Israel as the Israeli-Palestinian peace process advances, Pakistan’s president told U.S. Jewish officials. In a landmark address Saturday night in New York City to representatives of the Jewish and Pakistani-American communities convened by the American Jewish Congress, Pervez Musharraf reiterated that the Islamic nuclear power won’t forge full diplomatic ties with Israel until a Palestinian state is established. Repeatedly describing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as a root cause of Mideast terrorism, Musharraf called on Israel to withdraw from the West Bank and respect other faiths’ attachment to Jerusalem; he did not make any corresponding demands on the Palestinian side.
