Mgr. Luigi Barlassina, Roman Catholic Patriarch of Jerusalem, has left for the Vatican. His unexpected departure was linked today by some circles with growing Church preoccupation over a possible extension of Soviet influence in the Near East. The Patriarch, it is believed, will confer with Italian Government and Vatican officials on measures to check a spread of Communism to these regions.
