The first public celebration of Dr. Chaim Weizmann’s birthday in Palestine was held yesterday at the Daniel Sieff Institute at Rehovoth, which is headed by the Zionist leader.
Mayer Weisgal, representing the Zionist Organization of America, presented Dr. Weizmann with a copy of “Chaim Weizmann – Statesman and Scientist,” which has just been published in the United States. The volume contains a group of tributes to Dr. Weizmann by 27 notables. In a brief address, the president of the Jewish Agency recalled that his 70th birthday coincides with the 50th anniversary of his entry into the Zionist movement.
Dr. Weizmann will visit Tel Aviv tomorrow, where he will be received by Jewish leaders and will review a parade of new recruits for the Jewish Brigade. A nationwide birthday celebration will be held on Monday, and will be marked by a special session of the Assefath Hanivcharim, the Jewish National Assembly, with Dr. Weizmann participating. The celebration will conclude on Tuesday when the Palestine Orchestra gives a special birthday concert at Rehovoth.
The Jewish National Fund announced today that work has begun in nearly all democratic countries on a special international section of the JNF Golden Book dedicated to Dr. Weizmann. Included in it will be tributes from individuals and groups throughout the world.
