Sir Mark Aitchinson Young, chief secretary of Palestine, today sent a warning to Aljamea al Arabia, the semi-official organ of the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, against its publication of inciting articles in connection with the Arab campaign against sealed armories in the Jewish colonies. In his warning Sir Mark stressed the fact that similar articles were responsible for the 1929 riots.
Notwithstanding his warning the campaign itself continues unchecked and in full swing. The chief of the Arab scouts, speaking at a meeting convened to protest against the armories, rejected mere protests as useless and called for action. “Your land, your lives and your property are endangered and if we do not awaken we will be killed by Jewish fire kept in the colonies,” he declared.
On the other hand the Jewish press today points out that in the last week alone 26 Arabs have been arrested for carrying arms. The papers cite this to prove to what extent measures for the safety of the Jewish colonies remain most essential. The Arab campaign began when the government distributed sealed armories to the more remote Jewish colonies.
