The British technical commission which will explore the possibilities of partition in Palestine will comprise three or four experts on financial, economic and frontier demarcation questions, it was authoritatively learned today.
One of the members will be an expert on the Near Eastern question, probably a member of the Indian civil service, since the Government does not wish to appoint anyone connected either with the Jews or the Arabs. The commission is expected to be named some time in February.
The Colonial Office has so far approached several candidates, none of them, it is understood, a member of the Peel Royal Commission, which recommended partition. The Colonial Office’s first intention to appoint certain members of the Peel Commission was given up since it is understood the Government does not desire anyone to be a member of the new commission who is already committed to partition.
