A substantial cut in Jewish immigration into Palestine was effected by the Palestine government under the new labor schedule granted to the Jewish Agency last month, it was disclosed here today when the Executive of the Jewish Agency completed distribution of the certificates.
Of the 7,600 immigration certificates granted by the government to the Jewish Agency, only 3,570 are for families. The remainder are good for single persons only, it was revealed.
SETS PRECEDENT
This is the first time that Sir Arthur Wauchope, Palestine High Commissioner, introduced such a restriction into the labor schedule. Its significance, it was pointed out here, is that only one persons will be permitted to enter Palestine on each of the 4,030 immigration certificates intended for unmarried immigrants.
This innovation is a great blow to the immigration policy of the Zionist Executive. In granting the 7,600 immigration certificates to the Jewish Agency, the Palestine government definitely stipulated that 4,030 of them must go to unmarried persons of whom 1,865 should be men and 2,165 women.
