A meeting here today of editors and publishers of all the Hebrew newspapers in Palestine drafted a letter to Chief Secretary John V. W. Shaw, protesting against the one-week suspension imposed by the Palestine Government on the Laborite daily Davar, largest newspaper in Palestine, and the Revisionist daily Inmashkiff.
Pointing out that the effending material in Davar had been passed by the censor, the letter said that “no editor can be stricter than the Palestine Government’s censor. Approval given by the cansor cannot be allowed to become a trap for the editors.” The letter warns that if the Government does not alter its policy towards the papers, they will not be able to continue publication.
It is understood that the Jewish papers are considering suspending publication as of Wednesday, if a satisfactory reply is not received from the Government.
The Tel Aviv municipal council, last night, adopted a resolution protesting the action against Davar and Hamashkiff.
