The basis for the rumor which sent hundreds of Jews to staking out claims last Tuesday on land belonging to the German colony of Sarona, near Tel Aviv, was revealed today with publication in the Palestine Government’s Official Gazette of an order authorizing the city of Tel Aviv to acquire a section of Sarona for housing sites.

Apparently some of the “homesteaders” who rushed there Tuesday learned of the government requisition of some of the Sarona land and wanted to assure themselves of a site. This explains; probably, why the district police commissioner, when dispersing the crowds, told them that it was necessary for them to register with the proper authorities before acquiring any land in Sarona.

An official announcement issued by the government today reveals that a trade agreement has been signed between Palestine and Iraq under which Iraq will receive soap, textile and other Palestine products in exchange for 14,000 head of cattle and ten tons of wool. The agreement is valid for one year.

The management of the Palestine Railways today announced that it will purchase the Haifa-to-Beirut railway line as soon as it is relinquished by the military authorities.
