The charge that the Palestine Government did little to protect the colonists in the Jewish cooperative colony of Hulda, seven settlers of which were found guilty last week by a military court of illegal possession of arms, was made here today by Mala Gitlin, one of the members of the Hulda settlement who is now in the United States as an advisor to the Labor Zionist Youth organization.
Addressing a press conference arranged by the American Zionist Emergency Council, Miss Gitlin described in detail the frequent Arab attacks on Hulda which resulted in the killing of seventeen Jews from 1936 to 1940. About half of the 250 Jewish settlers in Hulda are aged people and children, she stated, adding that while Jews are being convicted for alleged possession of arms, the Arabs in Palestine have received huge supplies of arms and ammunition from Syrian Arabs who were given the arms by General Henri Dentz, who commanded Vichy troops in Syria, when his troops were forced to capitulate and the Fighting French took over administration of the country.
