On Saturday, June 2nd, the birthday of King George V was officially celebrated here. As the King’s birthday (June 2) was on Sunday, the Jewish population made representations to the government asking that the celebration be postponed to Monday so that the Jews should be able to participate.
Last year the King’s birthday coincided with the Jewish festival of Pentecost, and the Government postponed the celebration till Monday, June 5th, in order to allow the Jewish community to join in the celebration. The Palestine Arabs protested against the postponment, declaring that it was an indication of the extent of Zionist power in Palestine.
This year the Government refused to postpone the celebration and the Jews have consequently not participated. The Arab press is jubilant over the affront to the Jews.
