Palestine Government Undecided on Who Gets Jerusalem Mayor’s Pay

ACTING MAYOR DANIEL AUSTER OF JERUSALEM IS NOT RECEIVING ANY SALARY FROM THE CITY. MAYOR HUSSEIN FAKHRI AL KHALIDI, AN EXILE IN THE SEYCHELLES ISLANDS, IS NOT RECEIVING HIS SALARY. THE PALESTINE GOVERNMENT HAS NOT DECIDED WHO IS TO GET THE MAYORAL PAY-CHECK, WITH EXPENSE ALLOWANCE, TOTALLING £1,446 ($7,230) A YEAR.

THE SALARY OF DR. KHALIDI, A LEADER OF THE ARAB NATIONALIST MOVEMENT, WAS HELD UP AFTER HIS ARREST EARLY IN OCTOBER, ON THE ORDER OF THE GOVERNMENT, AND HAS NOT BEEN TURNED OVER TO HIS FAMILY. MEANWHILE MR. AUSTER, WHO, AS A MEMBER OF THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL RECEIVED NO PAY, HAS BEEN PERFORMING THE MAYORAL DUTIES GRATIS.

THE SALARIES OF TWO OTHER HIGH CITY OFFICIALS, SOUREYA BOUDEIRI, ASSISTANT ENGINEER, AND RIBHI MURAD, CHIEF CLERK OF WATER SUPPLY, BOTH RECENTLY SENT TO ACRE CONCENTRATION CAMP, HAVE ALSO BEEN SUSPENDED BY GOVERNMENT ORDER.
