A Government communique issued here to-day on the motor traffic general strike suggests that the Government has no intention of giving way to the demands of the strikers. The Government promises to consider the recommendations of its Board of Enquiry, in the matter of the taxation imposed on the motor industry, but makes on promise of any changs, being entirely uninfluenced in this regard by the pressure brought to bear on it by the strike.
The Haifa Municipality has adopted a resolution calling upon the Government to settle the strike immediately, and a group of merchants in Jerusalem have threatened to close down their shops unless a settlement is effected.
