The first contingent of sixty young Palestine Jewish women, who last week joined the Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service here, today started a six-weeks’ course of training under a staff of non-commission W.A.T.S. officers who recently arrived here from England.
After this first group has completed the intensive training course they will form the nucleus of a Palestine W.A.T.S., to be used as nurses, store-keepers, army cooks, clerks, motorcar drivers and mechanics, with the British forces in the Middle East. Thousands of other Jewish women here are waiting to be called for training. At the outbreak of war about 50,000 Jewish women in Palestine volunteered for service, but until now there were no facilities for training them.
