A sterm warning to the dissident groups to halt anti-Jewish and anti-British “acts of terrorism” was issued last night in a joint statement by the mayors of Tel Aviv, Petach Tikvah and the chairman of the local Jewish Councils of Ramath Gan, Bnei Brak and Givat Haim.

The statement called upon the extremists to stop their attacks “against Jews and Britons and not to destroy the possibility of maintaining the unity of our organization. As heads of au## communities, we demand that you halt acts of self-destruction.” The statement concluded by asking for public support of the position of the mayors.

A British military spokesman told a press conference today that “this is the first time that such a warning was voiced by representatives of the Yishuv.” Asked whether the military authorities were satisfied with progress made under martial law, he replied that “nobody can tell how long the present situation will continue.”

A conference of the Hashomer Hatzair in Haifa today adopted a resolution calling for suppression of extremist “provocations” by any means since the continued existence of terrorist groups “threatens the entire Zionist movement.”

Mayor Israel Rokach of Tel Aviv announced that the military authorities have withdrawn all restrictions on the importation of building materials to Tel Aviv and vicinity.

An explosion occurred in the Meah Shearim quarter of Jerusalem, which is under military control, early this morning. No casualties were reported. Military authorities who were unable to discover the exact place of the explosion, said that it might have been caused by a flash bomb such as extremists use as a diversionary weapon during attacks. One of the Jews wounded during extremist attacks in Tel Aviv Saturday night, Haim Turtletaub, 49, died there tonight.

It was learned here that the crew of the Ben Hecht who were arraigned yesterday on charges of aiding illegal immigration to Palestine were today transferred to the prison at Acre. (Under-Secretary of State Dean Acheson said in Washington today that neither the American Consul General in Palestine nor the U.S. Government have received any request for action in connection with the arrest of the crew of the Ben Hecht, which was intercepted is Palestine waters last Saturday night. He said the State Department does not knew whether any members of the craw claim American citizenship.)

One of the two new Jewish settlements which were established last night in the Hadera area was named Mayan Baruch in memory of Bernard Gordon of South Africa the bequeathed half of his property to the Jewish National Fund. The settlers are veterans of the Sixth South African Division which was also called the “Zion Division.” The second settlement was named Yakun, and most of the settlers there are immigrants brought to Palestine by the Youth Aliyah movement.
