Palestine Jews Asked to Contribute $400,000 As “jewish National Tax”

Palestine Jews will have to pay a “Jewish national tax” of approximately $400,000 during the coming year in accordance with a resolution adopted today at the ninth Keren Hayesod conference here. The Keren Hayesod will raise this amount in Palestine to finance the various activities of the Yishuv’s institutions, concurrently with its campaign abroad.

It was learned here today that Moshe Shertok, chief of the political department of the Jewish Agency, will leave for London on Monday to confer on qubstions affecting Palestine. At the same time it was reported that the central committee of the world Agudas Israel has complained to the Agency that it has not yet received any reply to its appeal for the establishment of a united front of Jewish groups to rescue European Jewry from complete extermination and starvation and to supply food and medicine.

The wine cellars of the colony of Rishon LeZion, which were built by Edmond de Rothschild, celebrated their fortieth anniversary today, the Palestine press reports. The local newspapers also reported the arrival of the commercial representative of Syria who is here to place large orders with Palestine industries.
