The Hebrew Committee of National Liberation today received a cable from its representative in Turkey reporting that the 250 Jewish political prisoners who were deported from Palestine to a concentration camp in the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan have informed the British inspector of the camp that they will being a “hunger strike” in August unless they are released or brought to trial.

The Committee also announced that the International Red Cross in Geneva has instructed its representative in Cairo to visit the camp and to ascertain from British authorities whether food parcels may be sent the prisoners who exist, the committee charged, “on starvation rations, under unsanitary conditions and an unbearabletropical climate.”
