Palestine Jewry is in a state of bewilderment today.

Something important concerning Palestine’s future is now going on behind the scenes, in connection with Emir Abdullah’s trip to London next week. Nothing definite can be pointed out as indicating what direction future developments will take, however.

The Arab press came out today for the first time with allegedly authentic news that “great changes will take place in Palestine following the Emir’s return from London.” Emir Abdullah is ruler of Transjordania.

CONSULTS WITH ARABS

That the Emir’s trip may have something to do with the situation in the Holy Land is seen also from the visits he has been making today and yesterday in Palestine. He is known to have consulted with leading Palestine Arabs concerning his forthcoming trip to the British capital.

Meanwhile, High Commissioner Sir Arthur Grenfell Wauchope to day gave a luncheon in Jerusalem to the leading Transjordanian sheikhs. He is known to have asked their opinion on matters which Emir Abdullah will discuss with British government officials in London.

At the same time, the Hebrew papers have come out with reports that the government has started preparations for a legislative assembly, which, the papers predict, will be formed after the municipal elections have taken place.

JEWS REMAIN ON GUARD

The Palestine Jewish community has not yet relaxed the tension following the riots last week during the seven-hour general strike against the British government’s stringent immigration rulings. Distrust between Arabs and Jews, too, has become more evident during the past few days, with street fights and near-riots occurring several times recently.

Thus the present political uncertainty now current has charged the air with added electricity and Jewish leaders are anxiously awaiting further developments.
