The Jews must remember that the Balfour Declaration contains two parts and the government must observe the second part too, J. G. F. Campbell, district commissioner, told a Jewish delegation from Jaffa comprised of Chief Rabbi Uziel, M. Mereminsky, A. Gezundheit and Rabbi Berlin who submitted the protest resolutions adopted during the general strike last Thursday.
The suspension of immigration is only temporary, Mr. Campbell told the delegation, repeating the High Commissioner’s instructions and adding the comment of the Colonial Office. The district commissioner undertook to forward the delegation’s protest to the government.
A delegation from Haifa was received by Mr. Colville who emphasized that only immigration in the certificate category had been suspended and not other categories.
