The population of Palestine, excluding nomads, numbered 1,335,253 at the end of 1937, compared with 1,300,151 in 1936 and 1,241,561 in 1935, according to recently published official figures. Of this number 61.2 per cent, were Moslems, 29.6 per cent, Jews, 8.3 per cent Christians and 0.9 per cent are listed as “other,” mainly Druzes.
On the assumption that the nomad population has not increased since 1931, when 66,553 were counted, the total population becomes 1,401,806 and the percentages listed above are changed to 63 per cent for Moslems, 28.2 for Jews, 7.9 per cent Christians and 0.8 per cent for others.
