The Palestine Economic Corporation today announced that an outstanding American chemical engineering firm had been engaged to make a capital investment blueprint for the expanded operation of the chemical exploitation of the Dead Sea. The natural resources of the Dead Sea have been estimated at 42,000,000,000 tons, with potash alone enough to cover the present world consumption for 2,000 years.
The decision to make a survey of the financial needs of an expanded program care at the end of a week of meetings of officers of Palestine Potash, Ltd. at the offices of the Palestine Economic Corporation here. It was reported that the net profits of Palestine Potash, Ltd. for 1947 were 280,813 pound, before taxes and a special allowance for deferred repairs, but after allowing 71,820 pound for depreciation. For the past year, however, operations at the north end of the Dead Sea have been halted, hiving been occupied by the Trans Jordan Arab Legion. The works at the southern end of the Bead Sea have been safeguarded by the Israeli Army.
