C. R. Webb, general manager of the Palestine Railways, reecntly received a delegation composed of Isaac Ben Zvi, the labor leader, and representatives of the Railway workers of Jerusalem, Haifa, and Jaffa-Ludd. Mr. Webb stated that the question of official recognition of the Railwaymen’s Organization is under the Government’s consideration at present.
The delegation submitted a memorandum urging (a) that a rise of wages be granted to all workers in accordance with the number of years they have worked, (b) that a day of rest be given to the Traffic Department workers once a week, (c) that the general position of the Transport Department workers be improved; (d) that the hours of work of guards be reduced, (e) that the Ludd workers residing at Jaffa be given free tickets when proceeding home.
Mr. Webb adopted a sympathetic attitude towards these demands. He promised to receive from time to time representatives of the Railwaymen for interview.
