Some 10,000 additional Jewish families can be settled in the agricultural settlements already existing in Palestine, according to a report submitted to the United Jewish Appeal by David Stern, head of the Colonization Department of the Jewish Agency for Palestine who recently arrived in this country. Mr. Stern is visiting the United States at the invitation of the Joint Distribution Committee which asked him to survey colonization projects in San Domingo and Bolivia.

“The cooperative settlement, once the subject of doubt and dispute, has proved its value beyond question,” Mr. Stern declared, as he described the success which the Jewish farmers in Palestine had achieved in getting maximum values from the land they cultivated. “The Jewish settlements in Palestine now produce 75 percent of the milk needs, 70 percent of the vegetables, 90 percent of the potatoes, 67 percent of the fowl and eggs. This past year they also provided a record 600 tons of fish,” he said. Mr. Stern added that the end of the war will not interrupt the progress of the Palestine agricultural settlements, which have found new markets for their produce.
