A demand for the maintenance and autonomy of the Hebrew schools in Palestine was voiced in a resolution adopted at the annual conference of the Hebrew Teachers in Palestine, which concluded its session today. The resolution refers to the Draft Education Ordinance, which was published in October 1927 and aroused opposition among all sections of the population, Arab and Jewish, including both the Zionist and the Orthodox sections of the Jewish Community.
The Conference also adopted a resolution urging the Zionist Executive to cancel all the dismissal notices to teachers and kindergarten workers.
The Conference elected a new Central Committee composed of Mrs. Feinsud-Sukenik, Drs. Engel, Rivlin and Hayoth, and Messrs. A. Yellin, Erlich, and Kim. chi.
The twenty-fifth anniversary of the Teachers’ Organization will be celebrated in December, during Chanukah week, it was announced at the Conference.
TO LAUNCH OTTINGER BOOM AT DINNER
The move to make Attorney General Albert Ottinger the Republican nominee for Governor will be launched officially at a dinner at the Hotel Astor Monday evening, September 10 on the occasion of Mr. Ottinger’s fiftieth birthday.
James R. Sheffield, former Ambassador to Mexico, is Chairman of the Dinner Committee; Manny Strauss and G. Carleton Brown, Vice Chairmen; Thom as H. Silver, Treasurer, and Howard C. Forbes, Secretary, Adolph Zukor is Chairman of the Reception Committee and Thomas C. Desmond, Vice-Chairman.
The boom for Mr. Ottinger already has made much progress unofficially, it was said yesterday.
Although Mr. Ottinger still seems to head the list of aspirants for the Republican nomination for Govrnor, friends of United States Attorney Charles H. Tuttle are said to have obtained considerable support for him. Sentiment is said to have developed up-State for the nomination of William H. Hill of Binghamton, Chairman of the Hoover-Curtis Campaign Committee, who is supporting Mr. Ottinger. Friends of Mr. Hill have suggested that Mr. Ottinger might be nominated for Senator and Mr. Hill for Governor.
