Palestine Will Grow to Large Dominion Through Jewish Colonization, Sir Alfred Mond Tells Canada Zion

The prediction that the settling of Jews in Palestine will lead to the formation of another dominion in the British Empire like that of Canada was made by Sir Alfred Mond, former member of the British Cabinet and leading Zionist, who has arrived here on a two month’s visit which will also bring him to the Uniter States.

The prediction was made by Sir Alfred in an address which he delivered at a luncheon given in his honor yesterday by the Zionist Federation of Canada.

“As a business man I went to Palestine in 1921 to criticize the proposed immigration to Palestine. But I found that Palestine was a good ‘business proposition’ and was amazed at the favorable situation there. I found the soil fertile, the climate favorable, the agricultural industry good and our people doing well,” he stated.

“The work of reconstruction had been carried on in the face of the bitterest opposition.”

Two subsequent visits to Palestine in 1923 and 1925 revealed to Sir Alfred progress unparalleled in any other section of the world.

“Palestine and Canada are exactly alike,” the speaker said. “The country is rich in agricultural value, but is faced with the same colonization problems.”

He referred to the recent bill in the British Parliament authorizing a large loan to equip a complete harbor on the coast of Palestine. This harbor holds a very strategic position as indeed does the whole of Palestine. The speaker showed how the Palestine movement was leading to the formation of another dominion like Canada that would be of inestimable value not only to the Jews but also to the British Empire.

“To my dying day, I shall be proud to say that I was a member of the government that started this great movement,” he continued. He paid great tribute to the British Empire and said loyalty to Britain was a part of the creed of English Jews and the Jews intend to assist in the stabilization of the Empire.

“Palestine is filled with prosperous, educated, intelligent Jews-a nation of high culture, artistic and musical. All modern inventions are being adapted to the new land and three mammoth electric plants have been built.

“The consistent endeavors of Dr. Weizmann, leader in the Zionist movement, in the face of the greatest difficulties, have been largely responsible for the progress in Palestine.” Sir Alfred urged his hearers to see Palestine for themselves. If they went, they would be among brothers, all interested in the same problems, he declared.
