Palestinian Authority official Abu Mazen maintained that by the end of the third further redeployment in the West Bank, the Palestinians will control 90 percent of the West Bank. Interviewed on Voice of Palestine radio, Yasser Arafat’s deputy said that in the third phase the Palestinians would gain control of all West Bank land, with the exception of Jewish settlements and army positions. Mazen’s comments came after Israeli troops carried out the first stage of its second further redeployment in the West Bank.
