The United Nations will be closed to the public during the upcoming debate on the “Palestine Question.” The reason for this, it was announced here today, is for security reasons. According to a UN spokesman the UN security force will not be increased, but the UN is in contact with the New York City police to arrange security measures outside the UN building in anticipation of demonstrations and protests.
Meanwhile, it was learned here that General Assembly President Abdelaziz Bouteflika of Algeria has sent a message to the PLO headquarters in Beirut informing them of the invitation by the Assembly to the PLO to participate in the debate and requesting the names of the PLO delegates. The UN spokesman said that as of today no reply has been received.
In another development it was announced that King Hassan of Morocco has invited Secretary General Kurt Waldheim to take part in the Arab summit conference in Rabat on Saturday. Waldheim. who is unable to attend because the UN Assembly is in session, sent one of his assistants, Ismat Kittani of Iraq, who left today for the meeting. The debate on the Palestine Question will not open before Nov. 6, the date Waldheim is to return from the Food Conference in Rome. Waldheim is due to leave for Rome next week.
