Dr. David Lvovitch, vice-president of the World ORT Union, conferred with State Department officials today on plans for retraining of thousands of Jewish refugees.
Dr. Lvovitch later told the J.T.A. that plans were being formulated for a pan American ORT conference at which ORT leaders from Latin American countries would discuss the type of training their respective governments would recommend for future immigrants.
He emphasized that many Latin American nations would receive agriculturists but not physicians, lawyers and “bankless bankers,” since these professions were already overcrowded. Through the conferences it is hoped to ascertain exactly what occupational categories of immigrants will be welcomed in the Western Hemisphere.
