The Eighth Congress of American States, which closed its 14-day sessions tonight, has Broadened the inter-continental front against Nazi and Fascist invasion to include invasion by authoritarian propaganda and activities. A prime point in the program adopted is preservation of racial tolerance in the Americas.
The Declaration of Solidarity signed by the 21 nations stresses: “That the people of America have achieved spiritual unity through the similarity of their Republican institutions, their unshakable will for peace, their profound sentiment of humanity and tolerance, and through their absolute adherence to the principles of international law, of equal sovereignty of states and of individual liberty without religious or racial prejudice.”
Secretary of State Cordell Hull, in an address following adoption of the declaration, warned that “the resort to persecution, force and violence” was one of the forces threatening the world with “destruction and the horrors of armed conflict.” He urged defense against “the doctrines of enmity and hatred disseminated through insidious and subversive propaganda.”
